FLAXGROWERS COMBINE
PLANTERS’ ASSN. FORMED RESEARCH WANTED For years representations have constantly been made to the Government for greater research to be made into the problems confronting the flaxmilling industry. The aim has been to have an f^P e^ men *' a * and flax farm established, at which experiments could be carried out and, in addition, novitiates trained In the most modern and effective methods of milling and handling the flax. Investigations could also be made as to the most profitable leaf to grow. The latter question would be of special interest to the flax-planting companies fciined within the last two or three years. Up to the present millers and others interested have obtained little satisfaction from the Governmen. A move to strengthen the hands of the millers in placing their case before the Government was made recently. A meeting of flaxi-planting companies held in Auckland last week decided to form a Dominion Flax-Planters’ Association. The importance and great possibilities of the industry were stressed by Mr. H G. Milburn, who presided. During tb* past six years, he stated, production had almost doubled and there seemed to bno limit to the market for New ZeaiaG'i flax. MINING NEWS
