NATIONAL

“MARRIED LOVE”

The National Theatre has eclipsed all previous records with “Married Love,” the big British picture now

srabeing screened. Last jjj Saturday evening ■ the management ipfwas compelled to turn hundreds ■ away, the theatre ■ being packed to ■ overflowing long ■ before the last sesm sion. Hundreds H| waited patiently in ■ the vestibule in the Hg hope that a seat “ might become vacant before the is screening of “Married Love.”

The picture is certainly an unusual one, and its appeal is universal, being away from the run of the usual American films. Masie Burrows’s lone fight against terrible odds brings forth a cry of indignation to think such things exist, yet here in Auckland there are thousands of girls such as Masie Burrows, and there are many homes of the same kind as the Burrows’s. Dr. Marie Stopes thoroughly understands her subject, and per medium of the film she literally tears down the curtain of ignorance that hides these pitfalls from our young and innocent. “Married Love” is a clean, healthy picture, which does not offend, but lights the way in the darkness for a healthy, happy population of the future. The other supporting pictures are first-class attractions, making one of the finest programmes ever screened in the National Theatre, and this is all the more pleasing when it is known that the British Film Service, Ltd., has released the whole programme.
