AMERICAN GIRLS TRY By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright LONDON, Saturday. Two American girls, known as ‘ the heavenly twins,” the sisters Phyllis and Berenice Zitenfield, aged 13, abandoned the Channel swim from Cape Grisnez after being four and a-half hours in the water. They said the water was choppy, and as cold as ice. They were willing to continue, but their mother begged them to abandon their attempt. An English girl. Miss Jane Darwen, also abandoned the ssjwim after covering six miles in seveh hours. —Sun.
