DREAD NEW FOE FACES CHINESE
CHOLERA SPREADING IN COMPANIES OF SOUTHERN ARMY By Cable. —Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 10.55 a.m. SHANGHAI, Friday. Although Sun-Chuan-Fang’s antiSouthern campaign has apparently ended in dismal failure, leaving the Southerners in possession of Nanking, Shanghai, and all territory south of the Yangtse, a new enemy has appeared in the ranks of the Southern army. Cholera is spreading rapidly, and taking great toll. Hundreds of bodies are thrown into the river daily, as It is impossible to bury them. There ia a scarcity of medical aid, but all possible precautions are being taken against the introduction of disease. Sun-Chuan-Fang’s forces are retreating toward Chuehow, between Pukow and Pengpu. Lack of support from Chang-Tso-Lin was responsible for his collapse.—A. and N.Z.
