“REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS” OBJECTION TO N.I. PROPOSAL CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. At a meeting of the New Zealand Swimming Council, a request by the Canterbury Centre that fresh-water New Zealand records should be recognised was deferred till the next meeting to give other centres an opportunity to express an opinion. The Canterbury centre wrote protesting against the proposal by the Wellington, Wanganui, Manawatu and Taranaki centres to combine for the purpose of holding regional championships. to be called the West Coast championships. The Canterbury centre considered that if such championships were permitted, they would prejudice the success of the New Zealand championships. The chairman said that this matter was receiving the attention of the Rules Committee.
