MISSED HER CHANCE
GIRL THIEF ERRS AGAIN SENT TO BORSTAL I RAILING to respond to the leniency given her a year ago, Thelma Frances Goodley, aged 22, has gone to the Borstal Institute for three years. She pleaded guilty at the Police Court to-day to a charge of stealing dress material valued at £3 10s. Senior-Sergeant Edwards said the girl was placed on probation a year ago on six theft charges. Her employer had taken her back, and treated her well, but last month the girl went to a neighbour’s house and stole the material. Major Annie Gordon, female probation officer, said that the girl did well for a time, but during the past few months she had violated every rule of her probation. “I’m sorry,” said the major, “but the only way to save her is to send her to the Borstal.” __ The magistrate. Mr. I?. K. Hunt, accepted this suggestion.
