BANKRUPT CONTRACTORS
FAILURE AT HUNTLY A meeting of creditors in the partnership of Messrs. Beban and Jeune, contractors for the Renown Colliei'ies at Waikokowai, was held at Huntly yesterday. It will be remembered that this firm suspended operations a short time back, and about sixty workmen did not receive the wages due to them when their services were terminated, and the assistance of the Prime Minister was invoked to bring about a settlement of the men’s claims. At the meeting to-day the creditors were fully represented, and, in addition, the chairman, secretary and solicitor for the company were also present. The position of the contractors was discussed at length, and Mr. Jeune explained that the contractors’ troubles were almost entirely due to extraordinary adverse weather conditions prevailing for some considerable time. The position as disclosed showed a very considerable loss, and the meeting finally decided to accept an assignment for the benefit of the creditors. Three trustees were appointed to undertake the administration of the assets.
