A DIFFICULT PROBLEM
While several Australianbred pacers have made good on this side of the Tasman, others have proved quite expensive to their connections and followers. One of the most notable instances in Auckland is that of Direct Morning, in J. Shaw’s stable. DIFTEEN times last season the. *“* son of Direct Wilkes—Morning sported silk, but not once did he get into the money. It was thought when he became acclimatised he would make good, and prior to the National carnival the gelding raised the* hopes of his friends. Owing to the Southern handicaps not being suitable Direct Morning was turned out for a brief period, but the spell has not been beneficial. The bad weather, despite the fact that the pacer was doubly rugged, has had an adverse effect upon him, and it looks as if his connections will be up against it again this season.
