ARCHBISHOP OPENS SUNDAY SCHOOL ROOM

ADDITION TO ST. GEORGE’S A RECORD OF PROGRESS “For some time past 40 children have been accommodated in one small room and the Sunday-school teachers persuaded the vestry to increase the space,” said the Rev. J. L. Litt, vicar of the parish at the opening of the new Sunday-school room and extension of St. George’s Hall, Epsom, yestefd / afternoon. Built on the west side of the hall, the new room forms a new wing and is separated from the main building by two sliding doors. It is well lighted and appointed. The contractor was Mr. C. J. Rosser. The additions, which include a ladies’ cloakroom and a kitchenette, will cost £450, said the Rev. Mr. Litt. It was hoped that a sale of work yesterday afternoon would raise £3OO and that the building would be entirely free of debt by the end of the week. The record of St. George’s was one of progress, said Archbishop Averill. Since coming to Auckland in 1914 he had been continually opening some extension of the church, and he congratulated the vicar and vestry on their enterprise. The new room was an urgent necessity not a luxury. The archbishop stressed the importance of training the younger children. Prior to declaring the room open, Archbishop Averill offered a prayer and pronounced the Benediction.
