BRITISH-MADE TRUCK
CITY’S LOYALTY PREFERENCE TO COST £l3O THE discovery that it would take 12 years for the difference in running costs to make up the disparity in the prices of a British truck and a part-American vehicle was made by City Councillor A. J. Stallworthy when investigating a committee recommendation that the all-British vehicle at £295 net be purchased in preference to the part-American one at £165 15s. The trade-in value of the old truck was deducted by the agent in submitting prices for the respective machines. The truck concerned is intended for the Zoological Park, and after carefully considering the offers the Parks Committee had decided to buy the British truck. Cr. Stallworthy last night protested against the decision. Cr. «T. B. Paterson: The committee asked the council what it wanted, and it said it wanted a British car. Cr. J. A. C. Allum (after pointing out that the Chevrolet is assembled in New Zealand): Is this a foreign country ? Seven councillors favoured an amendment that the committee’s decision be reconsidered. The amendment was lost.
