BIG CAMBRIDGE FIRE
FINE HOME DESTROYED (From Our Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE. To-day. Another landmark, one associated with, the pioneering period of this district, was wiped out in the early hours this morning, when “Dingley Dell,” the homestead of Mr. and Mrs. William Vosper. of Pukekura, about three miles from Cambridge, was totally destroyed by fire. The place was built by the owners forty years ago. Originally the homestead comprised five rooms, but it was added to from time to time, and prior to the fire the dwelling contained 12 rooms. The fire made a clean sweep, not only of the homestead, but also the outbuildings, wash-house, dairy, storeroom, men’s room and a semi-detached billiard room-
At the time of the outbreak Mr. Vosper was away in Auckland, and the rest of the family were attending the hunt ball.
The outbreak occurred about 12.30, but was not observed until about 1 a.m., when the whole back portion of the dwelling and outbuildings were ablaze. Nothing was saved. The dwelling and outbuildings were insured in the South British Office for £I,BOO, and there was also cover of, £BOO on the furniture and effects and billiard table in the same office.
