SICK-BENEFIT PLAN FOR RAILWAYMEN
SCHEME BEING CONSIDERED C THE SUN'S Parliamentary Reporter .) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A scheme of sick benefit similar to that enjoyed by members of friendly societies is in contemplation for use by members of the Second Division of the New Zealand Railways, negotiations for the formulation of a workable specification having been going on for some time between representatives of the department and of the men themselves.
The Prime Minister, the Right Hon. F. G. Coates, has announced that several meetings have been held and a set of rules drawn up for a suggested association to work upon, the negotiators having reached that stage where it can now be decided how far the organisation can be enabled to function. The committee was in touch with the various sick benefit societies, and as far as could be ascertained there was a general desire to co-operate with the rail way men. It now remained for the committee to bring forward its proi posals to the department. _
