AUCKLAND BILLIARDS CHAMPIONSHIP
MORRISON BEATS LOVELOCK The Auckland provincial amateur billiards championship for the Billiards, Ltd., shield, was advanced another stage last evening, when E. J. Morrison played F. Lovelock at the showrooms of Billiards, Ltd. Morrison, as usual, scored quickly, but Lovelock played some great individual shots, including a number of screws, which evoked applause from the spectators. Morrison was the first to reach the century mark, but then had only a slight lead from his opponent, who gained the lead shortly after. Morrison was now playing with more freedom, and by means of nicelyplayed all-round breaks of 32 and 29 obtained a good lead, which he further increased by a break of 54. Lovelock visited the table several times without materially increasing his total. He rallied eventually, and byhazard play made a run of 38. He, however, left the balls in favourable positions for his opponent, who made 4$ before failing. A further 30 odd
break was made by Lovelock, but at this stage he was in a hopeless position, and Morrison ran to points soon after. Lovelock played fairly well in spite of his long absence from championship games. Morrison proved too consistent, although not playing at his best. The final scores were:—C. J. Morrison, 500. Breaks: 32, 29, 54, 43, 20 and 24. Lovelock, 336. Breaks: 24. 38 and 31. To-night E. V. Roberts, New Zealand champion, will play W. Brander.
