TENNIS BOOMING IN NORTH ISLAND

SOUTH GOES BACK N.Z.L.T.A.’S ANNUAL MEETING Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association, the report showed an increase of 475 members. The North Island had increased by 788, but the South had gone back 313. The balance sheet showed a pro-

fit for the year of £279, although a slight loss was made on the Sydney tennis tour.

There was only one competitor for the girls’ championship singles. The Appeal Council ruled that Miss Newtown was entitled to hold the Wilding Memorial Cup for the year as the winner.

There was a discussion on junior players, and it was urged that school tennis should be fostered.

Mr. J. H. Kirk was elected presi dent and Mr. K. M. Kean secretary.

It was decided that if a French team came out to Australia, efforts should be made to get them to come over to New Zealand. Meanwhile the Council is considering an invitation to a team of Melbourne and Sydney ladies.

RAWHITI LAWN TENNIS CLUB

The annual meeting of the Rawhiti Lawn Tennis Club was held in the committee room of the Remuera Public Library last evening, the president, Mr. R. W. Woods, presiding. The attendance was fair, considering the weather.

The annual report showed that the year had been a successful one and that the membership had been well maintained. A credit balance of £l9 19s 2d on the year’s working was shown.

The following officers were elected: President, Mr. R. W. AVoods; honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. R. IT. Barker; committee. Miss Eaves, Miss Diekin, Messrs. Purdy, Cullen and Kalman; auditor, the Rev. H. A. Coleman.

During the meeting Mr. Kalman, a member of the club, offered a silver cup for competition among club members, the incoming committee to arrange conditions. The trophy was accepted with thanks.
