TWO GIRLS AND A CAR
RUNAWAYS IN COURT DISCOVERY AT 3 A.M. TWO gaily dressed girls, one a blonde and the other a brunette, looked subdued as they stood in the dock at the Police Court today. They were prepared to agree with anything Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., might The blonde rubbed her chin reflectively at times with nicotine-stained fingers. Both girls were aged 18. They were charged with being idle and disorderly persons. Senior Sergeant Edwards said that one came from Wellington, and the other from Waipukurau. They had got possession of an old Ford car, for which one of the girls said she was paying 5s a week. They had been in Auckland three weeks, and the police arrested them after they had been found at three o’clock in the morning with boys in the car. One of the accused had already been committed to the care of the Child Welfare Officer at Palmerston North. The girls were remanded for a week to enable inquiries to be made In the meantime, they were committed to the care of Major Annie Gordon. . The magistrate suppressed their names, and the girls nodded subdued acquiescence when the magistrate told them they must behave during the week.
