POPULAR SINGERS
ST. ANDREWS QUARTETTE A well-known musical organisation that has delighted many Aucklanders both on the concert platform and “on the air” is the St. Andrew’s Quartette. Established seven years ago by Dr. McDougall, the quartette originally consisted of Miss Evans (soprano), MissJessie Bartlett (contralto), Mr. A. Ripley (tenor) and Mr. E. G. Colledge (bass). Like most organisations of its kind the quartette has had several changes, its present members being Miss P. Gribbin (contralto), Miss Taylor (soprano), Mr. R. Peter (tenor), and Mr. A. G. Colledge (bass). Miss Taylor, who was trained in England, has appeared with singers of the calibre of Mr. Ben Davies and Miss Phyllis Lett, while Miss Gribbin, the possessor of a rich full contralto, is also well known to local audiences.
In addition to other musical activities, Messrs. Peter and Colledge are also members of the Auckland Choral Society, the former having recently taken a solo part in “Aida” and Mr. Colledge in “The Messiah” and “The Creation.”
The St. Andrew’s Quartette has beei mgaged for the next Bohemian con :ert.
