EMPIRE BROTHERHOOD
THE OVERSEAS LEAGUE With its face set against blatant Imperialism and flag-wagging the Overseas League, of which the Auckland branch is gaining in strength, seeks to emphasise the responsibilities incurred by citizenship of the British Commonwealth. Mr. W. P. Gage Brown has recently been appointed to the secretaryship of the Auckland branch. The objects of the league are to draw together in the bond of comradeship the British citizens the world over, to render individual service to the British Commonwealth, to maintain its power and hold to its best traditions, and to “help one another.' The creed is “Believing the British Empire to stand for justice, freedom, order and good government, we pledg ourselves, as citizens of the British Commonwealth of Nations, to maintain the heritage handed down to us by our fathers.” The society is strong in a subscribing membership of 30,000, a chain of 60<> honorary secretaries around the globe and tens of thousands of “associates” in all parts of the British Common wealth. The club was founded in 1911.
