SEWER CONTRACT LET TO OTAHUHU FIRM
KHYBER PASS STORMWATER The tender of Grinter Brothers, Otahuhu, for the construction of branch sewer No. 3C was accepted by the Drainage Board last evening. There were seven tenderers ranging from the one accepted at £8,873 to £11,877. The engineer’s estimate was £10,144. The sewer will be 2,010 ft in length principally in a tunnel to a point near the Newmarket entrance of the Domain Cricket Ground. It is designed particularly to carrj’’ the stormwater between Khyber Pass Road and Carlton Gore' Road, and relieve also Epsom and portions of Mount Eden.
The board decided to accept the Orakei Road District in the drainage district on the following conditions: (1) That the Road Board should pay to the Drainage Board the sum of £556, being one-half of the computed amount of annua! assessments that would have been paid had the road district been originally included in the drainage district; (2) that the Drainage Board is not committed to any constructional works which may be required for connecting the reticulation sewer system of the road district with the Drainage Board’s sewer system; (3) the Road Board to pay all expenses incidental to its inclusion in the drainage district.
The engineer. Mr. Watkins, stated that data was being prepared for the inclusion of 60 acres of Ellerslie town district.
