Ex-Serviceman’s Meeting. —A general meeting of members and intending members of the Ex-Service League will be held in the Trades Hall to-morrow evening. This will be the last opportunity to sign the canteen petition.
Train Alterations. —Railway timetable alterations affect.ng the Auckland - Papakura, Waiuku - Paerata, Thames-Te Aroha and Opua-Wha-ngarei trains are advertised by the Railway Department in this issue.
Death of Opotiki Resident.— The death occurred this morning at Opotiki of a well-known resident, Mr. William Burgess. He was born in Queensland and came to New Zealand 25 years ago. He was traffic inspector for several years in Opotiki. He is survived by a widow, four sons and 14 grandchildren.
Headmasters’ Protest. —At a meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Headmasters’ Association, a resolution was carried unanimously that in view of rumours of changes in the administration of education, the association protested against the suggested abolition of education boards or to the further curtailment of their powers.
Postal Efficiency. —The postal service of the Don-inion delivered last year to their intended destinations 244,361,865 postal packets. This number was made up of 149,881,324 letters, 4,557,568 postcards, 3.698,400 parcels, and 86,224,573 other articles. Of the postal packages passing through its hands, the post office actually lost less than one in a hundred thousand.
