At Western Springs on Saturday, August 27, the first-class tests were held, about 40 boys being present. The examiners were well pleased with the work of the various troops. A meeting of the First-class Examination Board will be held at the District Headquarters this evening (August 31), to be followed by the monthly meeting of the Scouters’ Association. * * * The patrol leaders’ monthly conference will take place at 7.30 p.m. at headquarters on Saturday, September 3. * * * The scouts are working diligently in their preparations for Daffqdil Day (Friday, September 2). The troops will be posted at their stalls as follow: Scout Headquarters (two stalls). — George Court’s, Karangahape Road, and Grafton Bridge. St. Matthew’s Troop.—Three Lamps, Ponsonby. St. Aidan’s Scouts and Cubs.—Remuera Post Office. St. Francis.—Greenwood’s Corner. Edendale Troop.—Edendale. Avondale (three stalls). —Avondale. St. Heliers and Kohimaraina.—St. lleliers. Ellerslie Troop.—Ellerslie. * * * On Monday, August 29, the management of the Capitol Picture Theatre, Dominion Road, gave a benefit programme to assist the funds of the St. Alban’s Troop. * * * The Avondale scouts will be represented at three stalls on Daffodil Day. On Saturday this troop will hold a working bee in the local church grounds. Eight cook’s and two handyman’s badges were won by the Avondale troop at the first-class tests on Saturday. Great Eagle forwards the information that a bagpipe band is to be formed in the Avondale troop and that the picked players will endeavour to procure their piper’s badges, probably the first in the Dominion. * * * Beaver Hunter, of St. David’s Troop, accompanied by another boy, left on Sunday last for New Plymouth, covering the distance by bicycle. The young adventurers reached their destination on the following Wednesday. Beaver Hunter has promised an account of the journey for this page. Singing Arrow writes that Patrol Leader H. Bradley, of St. Barnabas, has passed his King’s Scout test and that two lone scouts have returned to the troop for the duration of their holidays. —Redfeather.
