BANKER HONOURED
FAREWELL TO MR. CARR
Mr. C. E. Carr, manager of the Commercial Bank of Australia, who lias been transferred to Brisbane, was the recipient of a presentation at the Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon.
In presenting Mr. Carr with a purse of sovereigns, Mr. A. J. Hutchison said that, speaking generally, there was no other country in the world where the public was treated better by the banks than in New Zealand. Mr. Carr had been a great help in the boom period and he wished him every success in his new sphere. The presentation was also accompanied by a gift of silverware for Mrs. Carr.
In replying. Mr. Carr declared that he could not efficiently express his feelings. He had tried to be a good plain straight-forward banker—the gobetween of the bank and the customer. It \vas sometimes a hard thing to satisfy both. In his 25 years’ experience in various places he had discovered that wherever he went he had found a great deal of kindness. Auckland, said Mr. Carr, was destined to become one of the greatest cities in the British Empire, and certainly one of the greatest in the Southern Hemisphere. He hoped to return to Auckland when he retired. He made reference to the valuable work of the staff, and mentioned many of the former members who had been successful in the banking world. Mr. Gorrie, Mr. Hardley and Captain Ross also spoke eulogising both the business and social qualities of Mr. Carr. Mr. Hutchison then introduced Mr. W. J. Bradbury, who succeeds Mr. Carr. The singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow,” and three cheers for Mr. Carr brought the meeting to a close.
