SEVERED BONDS
UNHAPPY MARRIAGES DISSOLVED
EIGHT FURTHER PETITIONS Divorce petitions continue to occupy the attention of the Supreme Court, and eight undefended actions came before Mr. Justice Stringer yesterday morning. Considerable unhappiness was tbe lot of Walter Cundicli Frieher (Mr. R. A. Singer), who married Elsie Frieher in England in 1913. The petitioner came to New Zealand in 1923 and his wife followed him later that year. Soon after she arrived they agreed to separate and had not lived together since. A decree nisi was granted. John Austin Wright (Mr. R. A. Singer) was granted a decree nisi against Kathleen Alexandra Wright on the ground of separation. They were married in 1920 and there were two children. Failure to comply with an order of restitution of conjugal rights gave William Peter Lawrie (Mr. Singer) a decree nisi against Althea Ruth Marie Lawrie. The order was made in May last. Extravagant and wilful was Mary Sybella Webster, so much so that Alfred Murray Webster (Mr. R. A. Singer) found that she had misconducted herself with Frederick Armstrong. She had been ill in Gisborne as a result of this and. had admitted the offence. A decree nisi was granted. Leslie Walter Nairn (Mr. E. H. Northcroft) was granted a decree nisi against Winifred Hope Nairn, who failed to obey an order for restitution of conjugal rights. On the same grounds Ernest S. Maud (Mr. G. F. Finlay) was granted a decree nisi from Edith Maud. After her return from a holiday Margaret Trevarthen (Mr. G. P. Finlay) found conclusive evidence of the infidelity of Frederick Austen Trevarthen. A decree nisi was made.
