HALF-YEARLY MEETING The statement of accounts at the half-yearly meeting of the United Fire Brigades’ Association of New Zealand at Newmarket on Monday afternoon, and yesterday, when Superintendent A. Garrett, of Thames presided, showed receipts to be £ 3,420 and the expenditure £2,553, leaving a credit balance of £867. It was decided, in view of the suggested reduction in the Government subsidy to the association, to write asking that no change be made. Approval of the proposal to grant subsidies to sub-associations was expressed. and it was decided to refer the proposal to the next conference for favourable consideration. With representatives of the Fire Underwriters’ Association, a conference was held yesterday to discuss fire prevention.
