SHEIK IN FORM

DETER RIDDLE’S Sheik, win- -*■ ner of the New Zealand Cup of 1924, established a new twomile record for the Epping track recently when he won the first division of the Epping Handicap, traversing the journey in 4.28, thus clipping four seconds off the previous record which was held by Western King, who is now owned and trained in this province. The son of Bonnie Chief —Francesca, won so comfortably after conceding starts up to 120 yards, that many of his Australian admirers are wondering what he might have registered if pressed. Sheik, who claims an engagement in this year’s New Zealand Cup, is assessed by Mr. Brinkman on a 4.23 mark, and had 4.25 4-5 against him-* when he won the big prize three years ago, while, at the same fixture, he registered 4.22 3-5 when running second to Great Hope in the Courtenay Handicap.
