MORNINGSIDE THEFT

HOUSE BROKEN INTO WORK OF YOUTHS A MORNINGSIDE house was broken into yesterday afternoon and about 22s 6d was stolen. It is thought that it was the work of youths who had some knowledge of the place. The house which was broken into is the residence of Mrs. E. M. Coles of 37 Gordon Road, Morningside. She was absent from the house during the day and did not return until about four o’clock. The disturbed state of the rooms showed that a visit had been made by intruders. On investigation Mrs. Coles found that about £1 in silver and coppers had been taken, and also a children’s money-box containing about 2s 6d. BREAK AT NORTHCOTE Last night thieves broke into the Queen Street, Northcote, branch of R. and W. Hellaby, butchers. Entrance was gained through a window at the back of the premises, which was covered with gauze. Nothing was taken.
