NATURE UNADORNED

Sil*, From a report in THE SUN I notice that a scheme is under way to make so-called improvements on Mount Eden by planting ferns in the crater. This, I presume, will eventually lead to the natural terraces being laid out in flower beds at great cost. It is all very well to have a little artificial work around the tea kiosk, but it will be a thousand pities if the crater or the natural terraces with their Maori pits are interfered with. A few shady trees of a native kind, here and there, should be appreciated. Tourists do not visit this countiV to see ornamental or artificial work, but Nature unadorned and I think all thoughtful people will agree with me that it would be little short of vandalism to carry out this so-called beautifying. NATURE.
