A.A.A. ACTIVITIES

Mr. F. G. Farrell, a member of the council, will be present at the annual meeting of the Rotorua members of the association at St. John’s Hall on Thursday evening.

The service officer of the A.A.A. left to-day on a trip to secure information for improving the road guides and North Island maps, and at the same time gather material for a special map of the Thermal regions for the benefit of motorists visiting there during the holiday period His itinerary will probably be as follows: —Tuesday, Taupo: Wednesday, round trip of the thermal regions, including Waiotapu and Eastern Rotorua toward Roto-ma; Thursday, round Rotorua; Friday, return to Auckland, via Mamaku.

Motorists travelling along the Mount Wellington highway last Sunday experienced a great deal of tyre trouble. While driving along one motorist noticed a boy throw something underneath his car, so he got out to investigate. He found a piece of paper on the road, with a tack sticking through it. A little further on her encountered a number of motorists repairing punctures. ♦ This brings to mind an experience of the service officer of the A.A.A. last week, when returning from the Waikato. At Huntly a boy threw a stone at the car, but when the motorist went back to talk to the boy he received nothing but cheek. Both incidents are being reported to the police. Taxation on motorists was discussed at the annual meeting of the Cambridge branch of the Auckland Automobile Association last week. A resolution was carried unanimously that should it be found necessary for the Government to impose further taxation on motorists it should be effected by a tax on petrol, provided that the money thus raised should be divided equally between the Highways Board and- the controlling local bodies to expend on improving roads.
