THE DRUIDS' BALL

A BRILLIANT EVENT The Druids’ anniversary ball, held on Friday evening in the Druids Hall, Raetihi, was attended by about 250 per- ; sons, many of whom were from Horo- : pito, Ohakune and other outlying parts of the district. The ball was one of ; the most successful social events yet held locally, and great credit is due to the organisers for the way all arrangements were made and carried out. The hall and supper room were daintily decorated with, spring flowers, ferns, foliage, streamers and Chinese lanterns. Across the stage was a bank of greenery, into which were embedded vari-coloured electric lights forming the letters U.A.O.D. The whole effect of the decorations gave a beautiful setting for the scene of gaiety. The gay colours of the ladies’ dresses gave abundant variety to the scene, and in the whirl of the dance the effect produced was that of a well-cut jewel flashing forth its brilliant rays, creating a fantastic and charming effect. The twilight waltz was a scene giving graceful effect as that of elfin lights, and was greatly enjoyed by those who participated in the dance. Among other novelties was the party dance, in which fancy hats and caps were worn. Dancing to aerial music was also another novelty of the evening. A spot waltz, streamer waltz and confetti waltz were among the featured dancing of the evening, all of which gave gratification and enjoyment. The Mayor and Mayoress presided over the festival, and Messrs. A. E. Urwin and H. Green were M.C.’s, assisted by Messrs. A. Herd, F. Comer and R. Green. The catering arrangements were in the hands of a ladies’ committee, who provided a most enjoyable supper, and the committee is to be complimented upon the creditable manner in which all the arrangements were carried out. j The orchestral music by the Bluebird Orchestra added greatly to the 1 evening’s enjoyment.
