HOCKEY RE-PLAY AT PAPATOETOE

The replay of the Somerville v. Papatoetoe hockey match in the knockout competition took place on Saturday, when Somerville proved the victors by the odd goal in three. In the first spell, play was very even, neither side being able to score, although both goalies were called on a couple of times to clear, neither team being able to put the finishing touches necessary to register. In the second spell the game had been going for about a-quarter of an hour when Somerville registered the first goal. Papatoetoe then attacked, but could not score. In a few minutes Somerville raced play into Papatoetoe’s territory and scored. Papatoetoe now took a determined attack in hand, and from the right wing McGovern sent in a good shot, claiming the first goal for Papatoetoe. For the remainder of the game nloy* was very even, and sticks were flying round more than was necessary. Two of Papatoetoe’s players were slightly injured, but were able to proceed with the game. Papatoetoe is now out of the competitions.
