WORK ON THE MANUKAU
Alterations to the cabin of Avis should make her a very comfortable cruiser next season.
Work on Anahera is well advanced. Mr. Hamor proposes to provide a new suit of sails for the old-timer.
Grace is receiving the attentions of her keen crew, and HddY Jones hopes to scoop a few prizes with her when the new season opens.
Mr. G. Smith has been busy the last few week-ends burning-off his launch Salome. A priming coat was applied last week.
Mr. C. Paul’s 22-foter Sylvia will be brought down from her winter quarters at Waiau shortly to receive the finishing touches. Work on Mr. S. Bray’s Maidie is being pushed ahead. With her addocl improvements she is expected to plav a prominent part in the yacht-racing events.
Rear-Commodore Barnes’s Wanderer is undergoing an extensive overhaul. The engine appears to be the centre of operations at present. Great things are expected from her. Mr. L. Bouzaid’s Waiapu has had little done to her yet. Weather conditions have certainly retarded work on the Manukau, and a late opening appears certain. Messrs. Bouzaid and Duffy’s IS-foot champion Mystery is receiving the winter overhaul at the former’s residence, and, judging from appearances, should give a good account of herself next season. Naughty Girl will look a picture when finished. The last coat of enamel will be sprayed on, Duco style. Mr. L. Brain is evidently out for another prize for appearance this coming season. z CRUISING CLUB’S SOCIAL The Manukau Cruising Club is holding its annual smoke social for honorary members on September 3 in the Friendly Societies’ Hall. INTER-CLUB VISITS The inter-change of visits between Manukau and Waitemata Clubs, which at one time did so much to keep the yachtsmen of both harbours in touch with each other’s doings, may be revived this season. The Ponsonby Cruising Club proposes to invite members of the Manukau Yacht and Motor-Boat <Club to visit the Waitemata for one weekend's sailing, and will, no doubt, return the call on a future week-end. PONSONBY’S OFFER That yachtsmen are always ready to help one another is shown by the Ponsonby Club’s offer to the Victoria Cruising Club of the use of its clubhouse at St. Mary’s Bay for meetings when the latter’s premises are moved from Freeman’s Bay. The offer is much appreciated by the “Vic’s,” who may be temporarily without a home while their clubhouse is being moved to a new site in compliance with the Harbour Board’s irrevocable edict. It seems inevitable that both clubs at Freeman’s Bay must go unless some compromise can be arranged with the lessees of the present hauling out sites.
