FLATTERING HANDICAP
THE appearance of the handicaps for the New Zealand Cup in this issue will provide followers of the popular pastime plenty of food for thought. Mr. Brinkman has given the question every consideration and his treatment of the champion pacer Great Bingen will meet with general approval. Mr. Mackenzie's great horse has a winning performance of 4.21 off a 4.21 mark, and as a tribute to this wonderful effort the handicapper has left him at his bedrock time value. This idea of not crippling the crackerjack by imposing a penalty, is a commendable one, and Great Bingen’s connections have teen encouraged to take on the tig event. Generally speaking the handicap, at first glance, must be considered a flattering one, although, perhaps, Prince Pointer has suffered through his fast go for a second at Alexandra Park last November, when he put up 4.22 for a second berth. He is on 4.23 in the Cup.
