TE AROHA’S PROGRESS
IMPROVEMENTS TO COURSE MAKING GOOD HEADWAY TE AROHA, Monday. The annual meeting of the Te Arolia Jockey Club was held this evening, Mr. R. L. Somers presiding over a good attendance of members. The president reported that the profit and loss account for the year showed a loss of £615 17s lid. The profit from the race meeting was over £ 100 less than the preceding year, but this was to be expected, owing to the financial stringency. Included in this debit balance were the following items:—Depreciation, £528 11s 4d; course improvements, £348 17s; total, £877 8s 4d. The committee had purchased approximately 10 acres of land from Mr. Herbert, at a cost of £961 Is Id, for improvements to be made to the straight course. A contract for the first portion of the course improvements had been let at a cost of £SBO, but owing to the very unfavourable weather the work had not progressed very quickly. However, very satisfactory progress was now being made. Additional looseboxes, costing £lB5 14s lid, had been erected. The committee was arranging with the trustees for the administration of the property in connection with grazing rights. It was with deep regret that the club had to record the death of Mr. C. F. Mark. The successful position of the club was in no small measure due to Mr. Mark’s‘efforts. The sympathy of the club was extended to Mrs. Mark and family. The death of Mr. Boles had also been a severe loss to the club. The retiring president, vice-presi-dents and treasurer were re-elected.
