NOT ON THE RIGHT FORM
Sir,— 1 s ha PPy to learn last week that the Railway Department had decided to allow school children on holiday to travel at excursion fares: the taxpayer "j.-E lO re 3oiced to think of the few shillings I would save. On Saturdav morning I sallied forth in the sunshine with joy in my heart and in niv pocket the necessary certificate from my son s headmaster. The certificate v as received by the booking clerk with an almost Early Victorian courtesy as he explained that it contained all the required information, but was no use whatever, because it was not written on the departmental printed form. feo I paid the full fare, and went on my way rejoicing at the department’s determination to abide by its motto that the red tape is mightier than com- £° n K sens0 ’ Tha t election slogan of less business and more Government (or whatever it was) is certainly vork lns , ou t,' vell in tlle Railway Department. The department makes a benefiregulation and promptly nullifies wr f ° s,ns any Certificate not on its two* l S Printed form. The only thing that a Plain business man can do is to stand with tears on his cheeks and tb J y r ln his soul. For myself I lament the few shillings that I did not save' th U DDi. ln n?t haVe tUrned out, ot re^i V c e e FATHER OF TEN.
