MISUSE OF BOTTLES

LEGISLATION SOUGHT CONFERENCE OF CARBONATEDWATER TRADE T>ROHIBITION of the use of recognised food-containers for the packing and bottling of deleterious stuffs and fluids is sought by the Dominion Association of Carbonated Water Bottlers, which held its sixth annual conference last week. It was stated that the wrongful use of containers was a danger to the public and a concern to all bottlers. The Minister of Health had been applied to for legislation to prevent it. More than 40 manufacturers from all parts of the Dominion were presided over by Mr. A. M. Lewis. The duty levied on bottles was the subject of considerable discussion. It was decided to have the paper printed and distributed to all members. Visiting manufacturers and representatives of the supply trade were entertained at dinner by the Auckland members of the Association. Mr. R. R. Menzies presided and welcomed the guests. Visits of inspection were made to the Colonial Ammunition Company’s works, where crown seals are made, and to the Australian Glass Manufacturers’ premises at Penrose. The following officers were elcted: President, Mr. C. M. Saunders (Christchurch); vice-presidents, Mr. J. F. Laing (Wellington), Mr. A. G. Menzies (Auckland), and Mr. R.
