MUNICIPAL BAND

SUNDAY EVENING RECITAL The Municipal Band drew a crowd of band-music enthusiasts to the Town Hall yesterday evening, where an enjoyable recital was given under the conductorship of Mr. Christopher Smith. The band played Arnold Rust’s march, “Treue um Treue,” as its opening number, and followed it up with the favourite overture, “Light Cavalry.” Mr. Fred Bowes was heartily applauded for another Suppe number, a cornet solo, “Shepherd’s Morning Songs.” The band number, Handel’s “Harmonious Blacksmith,” was followed by a flute solo, “La Traviata,” for which H. C. McLennan was enthusiastically applauded. Alford’s “Vanished Army” and “Madame Pompadour” selections completed the programme.
