RIALTO
“OH! WHAT A NURSE” Some years ago, when Syd Chaplin, star of Warner Bros.’ production of “Oh! What a Nurse!” now at the Rialto Theatre, was first starting out in the show business, his engagements were few and far between, so when he would get down to his last “tup’nce” he could ship on a steamer as cabin boy. On these long trips, usually around the Cape of Good Hope to Australia and back, he easily and naturally fell into the role of ship’s entertainer, and before the end of the voyage he was more popular than the captain. Syd Chaplin is a born entertainer. His family for generations have been successful entertainers. It has become instinctive in him. It is irrepressible. Even during the time he was his brother Charlie’s business manager, he could not resist the urge, and so appeared in “A Dog’s Life.” “Shoulder Arms,” “The Pilgrim” and “Pay Day” in minor characterisations. Now, in “Oh! What a Nurse!” he plays the part of a young newspaper reporter who has been pressed into service as Dolly Whimple to answer letters from the lovelorn during that estimable lady’s vacation. Before he escapes from this situation he is forced to impersonate her and later a nurse. Patsy Ruth Her, Gayne Whitman, Edith Y« David Torrance, Mathew Beltz, Raymond Wells, Ed Kennedy and Henry Barrows form the supporting cast.
