HOSPITAL FIRE
OUTBREAK AT KAVVAKAWA An outbreak of fire in the Kawakawa Hospital at about six o’clock on Friday evening caused considerable alarm, and the institution was in danger of destruction. The noise of the fire in the partition between the dining room and kitchen disturbed the staff while at tea, and Dr. Frengley got a lead of hose at work, while the aid of the townspeople was summoned. The patients were quickly removed and another lead played on the lire, which was soon extinguished. With the safety of the position assured, patients were restored to comfort in the wards. It is estimated that damage to the extent of £SO has been done.
