AFTER FIFTEEN YEARS

Newton Wins Auckland Rugby League Premiership

STIRRING COMPETITION FINAL

GRIM, tigerish football, with 26 players and 12,000 spectators keyed tip to the highest pitch, marked the final clash for the League premiership of Auckland at Carlaw Park on Saturday. It was no day for football fireworks. There was too much at stake for that. But in the sheer exhilaration of magnificent forward play, deadly tackling, and the closeness of the struggle, the match rose to brilliant heights. At the finish, the victorious Newton team was carried shoulder high off the field. It was a memorable ending to a great club season.
