CABLE DUMPS
COMPLAINTS FROM PARNELL Residents of St. Stephen's Avenue and the vicinity will be interested to know that the collection of cable drums will continue to decorate the avenue for another four months or so. The w'ork for which they are intended is proceeding slowly during the wet weather, but will be considerably speeded up with the advent of fine weather. A number of complaints have been made in connection with the dump, but where actual inconvenience has been caused the Auckland Power Board has remedied the position. Most of the complaints about the dump were mainly concerned with the unsightliness of the collection of drums, but the board representatives explain that they had practically no option. Most of the cable is required for hill sections, and there would be extreme danger in storing them on sloping ground. Moreover, the board is keeping its expenditure as close as possible, and forming dumps all over the city would entail a considerable amount of money in attention, lightin", etc. St. Stephen's Avenue offered the best and safest storage, and the facilities offering were taken advantage of.
