LOSS TO TROTTING
DEATH TAKES THREE ENTHUSIASTS TRIBUTES TO THEIR WORK “TAURING the year we lost by aJ death three of our esteemed members. I refer to the late Messrs. C. F Mark, J. Gallaugher and B. W. Weston,” said Mr. H. R. Mackenzie in his presidential address to members of the Otahuhu Trotting Club yesterday. The late Mr. Mark was the bestknown figure in trotting in New Zealand, and to this gentleman we largely owe the great success trotting has attained in Auckland especially. Pie was always a loyal and warm friend to your club, and all his friends will sadly miss him. As an appreciation of his great services to your club, he was elected a life member of the club some years ago. This club, as well as the Auckland Club, and the sport generally, has lost one whose place will be particularly difficult to fill. He was kind-hearted, generous and always willing to do anything in the interest of trotting. The late Mr. Gallaugher served on the committee for many years, and was also a steward of the club. He took a lively interest in its affairs, and we miss his kindly assistance and genial disposition. The late Mr. Weston was also for many years a valued and honoured member of the club. A resolution expressing condolence with the relatives of the deceased was passed in silence, all present standing.
