A BRUTAL NURSE

ASSAULT ON A PATIENT “Miss Lynch has given absolutely false evidence and has been guilty of callous and brutal treatment to her patients.” said Judge Gwynne at Bath County Court, when Miss C. M. Lynch, professional nurse, sued Miss Alice Campbell, daughter of Sir George Campbell, for fees. Mr. Long, solicitor, said that Miss Campbell, who was recovering from pneumonia, called for attention at midnight, but Miss Lynch replied, “Do it yourself.” When Miss Campbell got out of bed, Nurse Lynch came in, evidently intoxicated, said Mr. Long, and seizing her patient by the throat, threw her violently on the bed. Miss Campbell escaped from the room and appealed for help to another nurse, but Nurse Lynch followed her and seized her arm with such force as to bruise it, explaining the violence by stating Miss Campbell was a mental case. Again she threw her into bed and sat upon her. A doctor later arrived and told the nurse to go. Miss Lynch said her patient was hysterical and had tried to bite her. Judgment was given for Miss Campbell and £25 awarded on her counterclaim for damages.
