CARTER THE GREAT

MAGIC AND ILLUSION Carter the Great is lavish with his thrills. His magic and illusions are almost supernatural. He shoots a bullet through a woman, and she keeps on smiling. He saws another woman in half with a crosscut saw, and she looks surprised but pleased. A hors© disappears into thin air, birds are netted from nowhere and wine and guinea pigs appear from the same bottle. It is all very bewildering and very entertaining.

Almost unaided Carter the Great entertains his audience for the whole evening at His Majesty’s Theatre. Any dullness is eliminated by an amusing line of patter and the illusions follow each other in swift succession, which is part of the charm of the performance. Miss Evelyn Maxwell reads the thoughts of members of the. audience, and is never so serious that she cannot make a jest. Altogether it is as good an evening with a magician as one could wish for.
