“RAMPANT EVIL”
CARGO PILFERAGE BLOT ON AUSTRALIA By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 9.5.a.m. LONDON, Friday. Commenting on the report regarding pilferage of cargoes at Australian and New Zealand ports, Lloyd’s List says the natural conclusion from the figures given is that most of the pilferage is still (as when the Royal Commission reported in 1921) carried out when the cargo is being landed or shipped in Australian ports. “It is deplorable,” the paper says, “that six years after the issue of so vigorous a report, the evil is still rampant. It is to be hoped that the facts now published will stimulate all the interests concerned in transport about Australian ports to unite in removing this blot on the reputation of some of the world’s finest harbours. — A. and N.Z.
