NOTES Pirates have lately been discovered in Christchurch. The announcer at 3YA last night stated that three unlicensed listeners in the Blue Alountain district for their breach of the regulations. Another batch of Auckland offenders appeared before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.AI., yesterday, the six persons concerned being fined a total of £l4. Mr. A. E. Wilson, whose organ recitals at the Baptist Tabernacle are often broadcast by IYA, has received a cable from listeners in the Blune Mountain district, in Australia, stating how they enjoy his playing. Last night Air. Wilson broadcast an answer to their cable and hoped that they were receiving the broadcast clearly across the Tasman. The match between Canterbury and Taranaki at Lancaster Park at Christchurch is to be broadacst by 3YA this afternoon. The programme for the special jazz evening from 2YA to-night has been recast by instituting dancing at an earlier hour and incorporating throughout the evening the originally arranged concert items. Air. C. E. Wheeler’s explanation of “The Cabinet System,” part of his series on “Parliament at Work” will be broadcast at 9 p.m. The work of M.C. will be undertaken at the studio in this form: The Studio Orchestra will play, “Yellow Butterflies,” after which there will be two waltzes. This rule will be followed throughout and will enable dancers to secure partners in anticipation and so lose none of the evening’s enjoyment. Air. Frederick William Barker, who is relieving announcer at IYA during Air. J. Culford Bell’s absence in the South Island, is a well-known elocutionist, having won provincial and Dominion championship honours on several occasions. He has had experience as a concert organiser and performer in Christchurch where he teaches elocution. In 1920 he was the judge of elocution at the Canterbury Union Band of Hope competitions. U.S.A.
