TARANAKI HUNT CLUE MEETING

REVIEW OF THE CARD FOR ANNUAL FIXTURE The annual meeting of the Taranaki Hunt Club, to be held at New Plymouth to-morrow, will serve to introduce a few of last season’s two-year-olds, and for this alone the racing will be more than usually interesting. The going will be heavy, for the track is by no means a dry one, but on the other hand the conditions will not be so bad as those prevailing here last Saturday. First on the programme is the LEPPERTON HURDLES,

Two of the above were seen in action here last week, these being Just John and Lady Acre, of whom the latter is preferred. Rafa might have improved since his last attempt some time back, and thus would be a possibility. All Wind is a fair sort of hurdler, and so

too are Flowing Bowl and Sea View. However, it is more than likely that the favourites will be Lady Acre and Just John. Next on the card is the HACK SCURRY 5 fur.

Fermanagh and Tangeriin, with Resin, have little form to commend them, and War Flame and Broad Acre are practically unknown quantities. Two speedy ones are Miss Mercia and Advance Camp, and with McTavish on the former, she should go a good race in a weak field. The public may pin their faith to Miss Mercia and Advance Camp. The first of the two big jumpingevents follow. This is the HUNTERS’ STEEPLECHASE, 2 miles.

Sea Comet ran two good races at Ellerslie last week, and with Rennie up may show some improvement. Franfeldt has been schooling well, and Chyrria. Liberal Lady and Molly Paul are likely to jump the country. ITuirangi Girl. Hpremai and Atene may be the best of the lower weighted ones. Maidos, with A. E. Ellis in the saddle, will not want for friends, and the race seems to lie between him and the Auckland representative. So most money will be on hand for Maidos and Sea Comet. This brings us to the open sprint, the STRATFORD HANDICAP, 6 furlongs.

Hipo and Mint Leaf liail from E. George’s stable, and they will be bracketed on the totalisator. The former is likely to be suited by the race, and may be one of the prominent division. Te Monanui will find the distance too short, and Monaghan too perhaps. The latter should develop into a more than useful handicap horse this season. Vivo is well, and Bevis has tone of pace, and moreover had a race last month at Trentham. even if it was over sticks. Pop Off is on the up grade, and Partaga will be ridden by a strong horseman in Bert Morris. Euphonium (Barry) can sprint as well as run a middle distance, and reports from Hawera state that he is very forward. Denier (L. A. Pine) is to make a first appearance in open company, and such a speedy one will find the round course to his liking. Three that will come in for very big support are Denier, Euphonium and Hipo. The big jumping event is next, the TARANAKI HUNT CUP,

The event appears to be between Banjuke, Gilgai, Rayo, Craigowan, All Wind, Oneroa and Sea Comet, axid in a good betting race the favourites may prove to be Banjuke, Gilgai and Sea

Comet. The field appears to be a stronger one than that which contested a similar event at Ellerslie last Saturday. The hack sprinters are catered for by two races. The first is the WAIHI HACK HANDICAP, 7 furlongs. Manly .... 10 S Closefire ... 9 4 Tawehi .... 10 0 Bright Glow 9 0 Anolo 9 11 Dermod ... 9 0 Bisox .... 9 11 Advance Troilus .... 9 9 Camp ... 9 0 Radiate .... 9 8 Anolo, Bisox, Manly, Closefire and Advance Camp appear to be the pick

of the bunch, and no doubt backers will decide in favour of Anolo, Bisox and Manly. The next is the HUNTERS’ FLAT HANDICAP,

This presents a real problem for punters, who will be waiting to follow the money. The race is not confined to amateur or hurdle horsemen, and therefore with real jockeys up the interest should be maintained. With Rafa still on the schooling list he will not be eligible to start, and therefore he is out of it. Lady Acre and Grand Lupin have as much pace as anything else in the race. The fixture closes with the URENUI HACK HANDICAP,

The half-dozen at the top of the list may prove to be too fast for the bottom weights, and therefore they should command the investments, with Sovena, Flying Shot and Airtight most fancied.
