NEW? FROM THE PARIS SHOWROOMS
A plainness characterises everything again. On a first appearance, it would seem that there is very little difference between the clothes that we wore the other day and those which we shall wear to-morrow. Chiefly this change is shown in subtler choice of materials. The little coatee which has been shown, almost as an after-thought, with many suits, now proves its importance. A short semi-tailored coat is seen with many new designs. Untrimmed necks are an attraction to many women. They look smart, they guard the craze for synthetic jewellery, or jewellery of some sort, and they are entirely in accord with the need for simplicity. Jumpers are a good deal longer this season, bordering in some cases on tunic lines. In contrast there are bloused models which are full to the hips, where they finish in a tight band fastened with buttons. Sports coats are made collarless and are quaintly original. They are made with shoulders and sleeves tucked and seamed in an interesting fashion. Huge sleeves, made to hang correctly, with darts on one side of the seam, are another variation of this new mode. * * * We are going to hear a good deal more about the plain stockinette and plaided combination. There is a determined effort to stick to a plain jumper and a patterned skirt. * * * Checks and plaids continue to be very fashionable, and spotted fabrics are approved. So also are printed materials showing quite tiny flowers as the pattern.
