Bowlers Say Au Revoir to Mr. A. N. Sneddon
Ponsonby Chib’s Farewell to Popular Member The Ponsonby Club rooms last night was taxed to its utmost capacity. The occasion was a fitting farewell to Mr. A. N. Sneddon, who is leaving Auckland. Besides the members of the Ponsonby Club, members of the Auckland centre and representatives from other clubs were present. The expressions of opinion took the form of the highest tributes that could be paid to Mr. Sneddon. Mr. Sneddon had been associated with bowling and the Ponsonby Club for over a quarter of a century, and also with the Auckland Centre Executive during that time. The evening marked an appreciative finish to his association with Auckland bowling. A presentation was made to Mr. Sneddon by Mr. R. Drummond, president of the Ponsonby Club, on behalf of the fellow-members. Messrs. J. W. Hardley, S. Coldicutt, T. Chapman, A. W. Bryant, R. G. Cox and A. Parsons paid suitable tributes
to Mr. Sneddon’s keenness and enthusiasm as a bowler, and to his long record of service to the game. During the evening a number of musical items were given bv Messrs. F. Carbines, C. Allan, L. G. Hopkins, and a bowlers’ community sing-song was led by Mr. H. C. Clarke. During the evening, Mr. J. W. Hardley presented the season’s prizes to the members of the club, who were as follows: Champion singles, Mr. A. Parsons; runner -up. A. J. Letham; club pairs, unfinished: percentage fours, W. Elleray, R. E. Smith, D. L. Goldwater, R. E. Somerville (skip); club pairs, unfinished; winter tournament, B. McEwan, T. Rolston, J. Conway, L. Neild (skip); handicap singles, B. M. McKeown. Billiards.—A grade championship, Mr. R. E. Somerville; A grade handicap, Air. E. Jury, runner-up; B grade, Air. B. Blincow; B grade handicap pairs. Alessrs. W. J. Campbell and D. Mclnness; B grade handicap singles. R. Richardson.
