RAILWAYMEN REVOLT
TROUBLE IN QUEENSLAND COMMISSIONER MUST BE OBEYED By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Reed. 10.50 a.m. BRISBANE, To-day. Twenty-two railwaymen are now suspended at Innisfail for refusing to handle goods consigned to and from the South Johnstone sugar mill. A mass meeting of 1,000 railwaymen at Ipswich pledged itself to support the men. An attempt is being made to transfer railwaymen from Townsville and Cairns to Innisfail, but they refuse to go. It is anticipated that they also will be suspended. In the Legislative Assembly the Premier, the Hon. W. McCormack, announced that the Government was determined that the instructions of the Railway Commissioner must be carried out by the men. He added that persistence by the Railway Union in its present policy of defying those instructions would only bring disaster to all concerned. —A. and N.Z.
