AUCKLAND RUGBY UNION MEETS

At last night’s meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Rugby Union, Mr. 11. Frost presided. Some discussion took place in regard to the playing of a curtain-raiser to the match between Auckland and Hawke’s Bay next Saturday. It was resolved to postpone decision regarding a curtain-raiser until mid-day tomorrow. In the event of there being no curtain-raiser, community singing will be arranged. Permission was granted to the City Club to play E. O’Connor, late of the Waitemata Club, in the Pollard Cup competition matches. The Manukau Rovers senior team was granted permission to travel to Patumahoe on Saturday to play the Patumahoe team. A deputation from the Unemployed Association, consisting of Messrs. Lindsay and Hammond, waited on the committee with a request that the union should take part in a sports day for the benefit of the unemployed funds. The suggestion was that the Rugby Union, Rugby League, Football Association and Hockey Association should combine for the purpose of making the day a success. It was felt that this would be better than taking up a collection. After the deputation had retired it was decided: —“That the committee favours giving the proceeds of a day in October toward the funds and suggests that a combined amateur sports meeting be held.” The chairman was appointed to represent the union at any meeting which might be called. Mr. W. J. Meredith, referee appointed for the match between Suburbs and Technical Old Boys last Saturday, wrote stating the Suburbs team was not on the field at the appointed hour or 23 minutes thereafter. It was decided the match should be played later in the season if necessary. A letter was received from Mr. A. J. Papps, master in charge of the Hew Plymouth Boys’ High School team, thanking the union for the entertainment provided for the team during its stay in Auckland last week-end and expressing appreciation of the manner in which the match against Auckland Grammar School had been controlled by Mr. Stretton. It was decided to forward a copy of the letter to the Auckland Rugby Referees’ Association.
