Found with Throat Cut.—A man named Sullivan, of Kaiapoi, was found in Moorhouse Avenue, Christchurch, late last night with his throat cut. He was taken to the hospital.—Press Ass. War On Weeds. —A determined effort is being made by the Mount Roskill Road Board to keep the district clear of gorse, etc. The district engineer has just issued notices to 43 owners of land to forthwith clear noxious weed* from their properties. Local Body Conference. —ln order to have representation at the suggested conference of local bodies called on the initiative of Mount Eden Council to discuss revision of local governments, Devonport Borough Council postponed its meeting for Wednesday next until the following evening. Lease to Cable Board. —In granting the Pacific Cable Board a 21-year lease of portion of Queen’s Parade the Devonport Council last night expressed the idea that it was good tusiness to have a long lease as team wireless was eating into the cible business and no one could say what 21 years would bring forth. Huge Cost of Machines of War. —The British mechanised army, at present manoeuvring on Salisbury Plain, cost 1750,000, made up as follows: Fifty tanks, £500,000; twelve “Dragons,” 148,000; sixteen armed cars, £32,000; twelve tankettes, £6,000; other equipment, £24,000. It costs 13s 6d to run a tank for a mile, or £7 an hour. —A. and N.Z. Transit Conference at Geneva. —The third conference on communications and transit met in the famous glass pavilion attached to the building of the League of Nations, which SaccoVanzetti rioters had seriously damaged. The Soviet refused to be represented, but desired to be informed of the decisions of the conference. —Sun cable. Education Board Pays Damages.— A claim for £1,350 compensation for an area of land and two cottages taken in connection with the extension of the Gisborne main school was made in a Compensation Court before Mr. Justice Ostler by Alice Frances Stebbing Moore against the Hawke’s Bay Education Board. Claimant was awarded £990 with £4O costs.—Press Association. , Motor-cyclists injured.—A car driven Mr. J. w. G. Bourne, of Okoia, collided with a motor-cycle ridden by Mr. Alfred Randall, of Aramoho, at Wanganui. yesterday. The cyclist was taken 0 hospital suffering from severe head mjuries. His condition is serious. Mr. Lawrence Whiteside, who was on the PilUon seat, sustained a cut knee and a brasions. Mr. Bourne was not hurt. Press Association
